AREA HORTICULTURIST

This associate serves as a “proprietor” of a designated area of the campus and duties encompass all aspects of landscape maintenance including annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, irrigation adjustments, grasses, aquatic plants, weeds, mulching, hardscapes, trash and recycling cleanup etc. All tasks are accomplished according to ANSI and OSHA standards for quality and safety. The associate is responsible for consistently evaluating and maintaining the landscape and the adjacent protected forest conservation areas and takes the lead for planning work within the zone.  This position also assists the Grounds Team with other projects as needed.  All tasks utilize the best organic practices and protocols, including Sustainable Sites, OMRI, NOFA, and others. .

GARDENER

Incumbent is responsible for cultivating gardens with appropriate plants; planting and caring for them with watering, weeding, pruning, and pest and weed control. The Gardener works in concert with the Facilities Director to select cultivars and plant them at the appropriate time and in the right locations. Incumbent prunes and fertilizes shrubs and assists with grounds maintenance. Gardeners also interpret the Gunston Hall gardens to the public as needed.

DESIGN AND HORTICULTURE MANAGER

The Design & Horticulture Manager is responsible for the management and smooth execution of Casey Trees’ garden design, construction and installation programs on both public and private lands. The incumbent designs, schedules, installs, maintains and oversees gardens year-round, responding to referrals from residents, local government, industry partners and others. The Design & Horticulture Manager also coordinates tree installations and arboricultural projects.
